Aerial Photography
Aerial photography transforms the familiar into the extraordinary, revealing the beauty and complexity of the world from a unique vantage point which traditional landscape photography can struggle to achieve. My portfolio celebrates the art of abstract aerial imagery, spanning landscapes, seascapes, travel destinations, and urban environments. Each image showcases the intricate patterns, textures, and contrasts that define these spaces, offering a fresh perspective on the world around us.
Oblique Aerial Photography
As a registered drone pilot in both the UK and Europe, I am restricted to reaching 120 meters or 400 feet above ground level, so it’s not quite possible to achieve the same high oblique aerial photography achieved whilst shooting out of an aircraft. My portfolio does however feature a combination of oblique, vertical and horizontal aerial photography, each bringing its own unique perspectives. Captured at an angle looking downwards, oblique aerial photographs provide a dynamic, three-dimensional view of the landscape between the horizontal and vertical plains. These images emphasize depth and perspective, perfect for showcasing sweeping coastlines, cityscapes, or rolling landscapes. With their dramatic compositions and interplay of light and shadow, oblique photographs immerse viewers in the grandeur and scale of their subjects, whether vertical or horizontal.
Vertical Aerial Photography
Taken directly overhead looking 90 degrees downwards, vertical aerial images present a bird’s-eye view of the world below. This top-down perspective highlights the symmetry, geometry, and abstract patterns often hidden at ground level. Roads become graceful lines, seascapes transform into colourful mosaics, and urban environments reveal their intricate layouts. Vertical photography focuses on abstract beauty, offering unique insights into the textures, patterns and structures that define a location.
Horizontal Aerial Photography
Often taken parallel to the horizon, horizontal aerial photography provides a panoramic perspective. This style captures the breadth and vastness of the landscape whilst maintaining a sense of proximity and connection to the horizon. Ideal for showcasing dramatic skies, endless oceans, and expansive snowy covered plains, horizontal aerial images evoke a sense of freedom and scale, drawing viewers into the vastness of the scene.
My aerial portfolio invites viewers to see the extraordinary as seen from above. From the rhythmic patterns of ocean waves to the ordered chaos of urban grids, each image tells a story and inspires a deeper appreciation for the world. Whether showcasing the natural beauty of landscapes or the human ingenuity of urban designs, aerial photography unveils a breath-taking new perspective.
